WASHINGTON, DC - Organizations representing Americans whose ancestors came from European, Asian and Hispanic lands announced in recent weeks that they are joining the Coalition for the National Museum of the American People. The museum is about the making of the American People from the first humans in the Western Hemisphere to the present.
The organizations are the National Organization of Portuguese Americans, National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce, Finnish American Chamber of Commerce Midwest, Norway-American Association and the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center serving Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian Americans.
The National Bankers Association representing African American bankers joined the coalition earlier this year. Its president, Michael A. Grant, said, "This museum is an idea whose time has come. It will finally etch in stone the inescapable truth that America has long been the home for the immigrants of the world. E pluribus unum should be more than a motto; it should be lived and celebrated as one of mankind's proudest achievements."
