American Immigrant Society Announces Support For the National Museum of the American People

The American Immigrant Society today announced its support for the mission and vision of the National Museum of the American People.

"As a nation of immigrants, our country would greatly benefit from this museum in the heart of Washington, DC to tell the dynamic story about the fabled 'Melting Pot' of the American People," said American Immigrant Society Chairman, Murat Koprulu. "Americans migrated here from every corner of our globe for many reasons, and under very difficult circumstances, for over 400 years. Their hard work and sacrifice made America the greatest ever model of economic and moral strength. It's a unique story of biblical proportions that only a museum about all of us can tell."

"The proposed National Museum of the American People, beginning its history with First Peoples, will tell the story of every ethnic and minority group along its chronological path up to the present day," said Museum Director Sam Eskenazi, thanking the Society.

This museum will literally bring all Americans together as it enhances and instills the central values of our nation centered on the Constitution. The NMAP is seeking a bipartisan Presidential Commission to study establishment of the museum, similar to the process that led to creation of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The American Immigrant Society seeks to humanize, protect, and celebrate the more than 80 million first-generation Americans who are immigrants or are the children of immigrants. These Americans represent almost a quarter of our nation's population.
